{"id":830,"date":"2012-04-12T17:59:46","date_gmt":"2012-04-12T17:59:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/?p=830"},"modified":"2012-04-12T18:02:55","modified_gmt":"2012-04-12T18:02:55","slug":"precious-materials","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/argoknot.s005.wptstaging.space\/?p=830","title":{"rendered":"Precious Materials"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week a friend of mine asked if I wanted to join her for the monthly meeting of the Westchester (NY) weaving guild. \u00a0They were having a guest speaker; she couldn&#8217;t remember whom. \u00a0She thought he was a tapestry weaver and a member of the &#8220;New York study group.&#8221; \u00a0I wracked my brain! \u00a0I should who this man is!&#8230;..but I didn&#8217;t!<\/p>\n<p>So I went. \u00a0And of course I knew him when he arrived to speak. \u00a0It was Stanley Bulbach, who also happens to be a member of the Textile Study Group of New York. I&#8217;m so glad I took advantage of the opportunity to hear Stanley speak and to see a few of his rugs in person.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_833\" style=\"width: 428px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/argoknot.s005.wptstaging.space\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Photo-Apr-03-12-23-29-PM1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-833\" class=\" wp-image-833   \" title=\"Photo Apr 03, 12 23 29 PM\" src=\"https:\/\/argoknot.s005.wptstaging.space\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Photo-Apr-03-12-23-29-PM1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"418\" height=\"560\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-833\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Stanley Bulbach<\/p><\/div>\n<p>As many people may know, Stanley spins his own yarn. \u00a0I did not know that he does this on a homemade spinning wheel that is based on a bicycle wheel he upcycled for the purpose! \u00a0He spins yarn from Lincoln fleece, which is long and lustrous, and when he wants something other than the natural colors of this fleece he turns to natural dyes for additional color. \u00a0His rugs really<em> glow<\/em>, something you cannot imagine from a photograph \u00a0They are beautiful!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/argoknot.s005.wptstaging.space\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Photo-Apr-03-10-45-42-AM1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-834\" title=\"Photo Apr 03, 10 45 42 AM\" src=\"https:\/\/argoknot.s005.wptstaging.space\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Photo-Apr-03-10-45-42-AM1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"418\" height=\"560\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I know you can&#8217;t see his rugs well in these photos, and I&#8217;m sorry about that. \u00a0Trust me that my photographic ability wouldn&#8217;t do them justice anyway.<\/p>\n<p>What I want to say about his rugs is that they have a <em>presence<\/em>. \u00a0Even if I didn&#8217;t know that he&#8217;d done all the fiber preparation by hand, that he&#8217;d created the yarns by hand, that he&#8217;d woven the rug entirely by hand&#8230;.
