The exhibit was \u201cSerizawa: Master of Japanese Textile Design\u201d at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.japansociety.org\/event_detail?eid=41b9f5c\"><font color=\"#0000ff\">Japan Society<\/font><\/a> in New York. (The book, which I bought, is available at the link above.)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.japansociety.org\/resources\/legacy\/event\/Serizawa_14_450.jpg\" width=\"223\" height=\"239\" \/>&#160;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_C_rkbvL5mqM\/SuUP8XFsWSI\/AAAAAAAAAdQ\/0JZ4KszgaBw\/s400\/Serizawa_13_450.jpg\" width=\"321\" height=\"301\" \/> <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px\" align=\"left\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_PM1ZKIZPNOM\/SyTmx_ThR5I\/AAAAAAAACLQ\/iucTNaFTzEA\/s400\/Serizawa-01-web.jpg\" \/> These are all dyed works on silk, hemp and cotton cloth (I believe handwoven cloth). This is a traditional technique known as katazome, which involves stenciling with natural dyes and natural resists.
